Captivated buy i,agery of sultans, shahs, slaves, saints and scarves, European audiences sought escape in the seemingly exotic cultures of Egypt, Morocco, and persia in the late 19th century.

 

Carmen is sung in French with English supertitles.

Directed by Conor HanrattyKirstin Chávez stars as Carmen, and Adam Diegel returns to OPERA San Antonio to perform Don José. Ryan Speedo Green takes the stage as Escamillo, and Andrea Carroll performs Micaela. 

More than 50 local singers will join the production as chorus, the children's chorus (The Children's Chorus of San Antonio), and the comprimario roles (or small roles) of Zuniga, Morales, Lillas Pastia, and the Guide. Don't miss the pre-opera lecture, beginning an hour prior to the performance, located in the Rotunda.
