This two-character play, considered by many to be A.R. Gurney’s master work, takes the audience on an emotional roller coaster through the lives of a free-spirited “rich girl” and a straight laced lawyer turned politician. These lifelong friends and sometime lovers share their most intimate thoughts through 50 years of notes, cards and letters, read by the actors on a bare stage. Currently enjoying a very successful revival in New York, it examines the “what ifs” in life and celebrates the dying art of writing letters.
