The Virgin Trial

Fridays-Sundays

THE VIRGIN TRIAL brings us the shocking story of fifteen-year-old Elizabeth the First before she was Queen. Exploring the contemporary themes of victim shaming, sexual consent, and the extraordinary ability of girls becoming women, this teen-aged daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn takes on the English monarchy, convincing them of her innocence and her greatness to eventually become the Virgin Queen and reign for 45 years – a reign generally considered one of the most glorious in English history.

A winner of the Carol Bold Award and finalist for the Governor General’s Award, Hennig’s second play in the Queenmaker trilogy had an impressive run in Canada and the West Coast. The Alchemy Theatre is proud to be the first company to produce the show in Texas.

The Alchemy Theatre, founded in 2019 by Artistic Director Michael Cooper and Managing Director Carol Hickey, aims to produce theatre for the Austin community that is, above all, honest and true.
