Gaslight Baker Christmas Radio Show
by Gaslight Baker Theatre

Dec. 11 - Dec. 20, 2020
Fridays-Sundays

Join us for a Christmas show and fundraiser on the GBT stage (and streaming) in the style of vintage radio. Featuring four Christmas vignettes plus the return of crowd-favorite, The Jingle Sisters.

The majority of Theatre expenses are covered by ticket sales. So you can imagine that 2020 has been a difficult year for the central Texas gem, the Gaslight-Baker Theatre. This show features a fundraising component that will give donors an opportunity to be part of the show, whether they are at the theatre or watching on the live stream. More details to come, but here's a hint... think Jerry Lewis and his famous telethons with a modern-day, online giving twist.

To help protect actors and guests, very limited seats will be available. Social distancing & masks are required.

What we are doing to help keep everyone safe.

As you know, GBT made the difficult decision this summer to postpone the remainder of our 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We promised that as more information became available we would explore safe means to bring events and productions back to the Theatre. To that end, and in stewardship of the Theatre, the members of the board have continued to work on ways we could safely ensure the long-term viability of the theatre and still meet the goals of our mission as an active community theater. As we have learned more about COVID-19, we believe we have a solid plan in place to move forward with a modified schedule for the end of this year. We thought it might be helpful for our community to understand the safety processes we are instituting and what the rest of the year could look like at the Gaslight-Baker Theatre.

  • Safety protocols for our patrons:
    • limiting audience to less than 25% of capacity for shows;
    • enforcing the already-in-place mask ordinances;
    • changing our procedures for ticketing and concessions;
    • providing for social distancing in our seating so that there is at least six feet of distance between groups and 12 feet
    • between the actors and closest members of the audience;
    • improving sanitization with readily-available hand sanitizer, improved access to water for handwashing, and regular facility cleaning;
    • looking into ideas for better filtering of our AC unit; and
    • trying to choose shows with shorter durations.

  • Safety protocols for our actors and workers:
    • limiting in-person auditions and rehearsals;
    • using small casts who are from the same household or cohort;
    • when the former is not possible, using masks in rehearsal and asking our cast members to limit outside interaction with non-cast members;
    • limiting set and tech elements to keep the number of people down backstage and at rehearsal; and
    • masking as much possible.

We are blessed to be housed at the historic Baker Theatre, which allows us the space to maintain proper social distancing.

You may remember our survey from a few months ago. The survey indicated a desire on behalf of patrons and performers for a gradual return to the Theatre over time. We felt, however, that staging the season we had chosen would pose too great of a risk to our artists and in some cases our patrons. This led to the postponement of the greater part of our season to next year, when we will also be celebrating our Centennial + 1!

The Gaslight-Baker Theatre Board of Directors strives to bring hope and maybe a few moments of reflection and escape to our community in these absurd days. Of course the health and safety of our patrons and artists are still our top priorities during this pandemic, which means nothing we plan is certain. We thank you for your patient indulgence as we try to be the stewards of the legacy with which we are entrusted.
