My Fair Lady
by Georgetown Palace Theatre

Apr. 20 - May. 20, 2018
Fridays-Sundays

My Fair Lady, a delightfully triumphant musical, takes the stage at the Historic Palace Theatre in Georgetown for five weekends from April 20 to May 20, 2018.  This Lerner and Loewe 1957 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical is based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion and is the basis for the 1964 Academy Award-winning film starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.  My Fair Lady is spoken of as that rare musical by which all others are measured, and it is directed by Mary Ellen Butler for the Palace.  Mary Ellen – Artistic Director since 2005 – has long wanted to direct My Fair Lady on the Palace stage, and the time has come!  The Palace is most appreciative of the generous sponsorship by Bill and Joanne Harrah for the Palace production of My Fair Lady.

The story is known to most:  Eliza Doolittle is a young flower seller with an unmistakable cockney accent which keeps her in the lower rungs of Edwardian society. When Professor Henry Higgins tries to teach her how to speak like a proper lady, an unlikely friendship begins to flourish.  My Fair Lady features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores, including “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” and “Get Me to the Church on Time.”

With choreography provided by the talented Sara Burke and skilled music direction by Austin Kimble, My Fair Lady fills the Palace stage made gorgeous with set design by Michael Davis, scenic artistry by Barb Jernigan, and lighting design by Faith Castenada.  Damon Brown returns to the Palace for the exciting role of Professor Henry Higgins.  Damon, a filmmaker and writer, co-created the Emmy-award-winning PBS TV series The Biscuit Brothers and more! In Austin, he has co-written original shows such as Tortoise & Hare, and Steadfast Tin Soldier, with Allen Robertson. Damon also had the coveted role of Don Quixote in the Palace production of Man of La Mancha in 2017.  Martina Ohlhauser, in her first production with the Palace, plays Eliza Doolittle.  Twice nominated for B. Iden Payne awards, Martina’s recent stage roles include Mildred in Different Stages' Fahrenheit 451 and Shannon in Theatre en Bloc's Bethany
