Southern Fried Funeral
by Temple Civic Theatre

Nov. 10 - Nov. 19, 2017
Thursdays-Sundays

Daddy Dewey Frye has died suddenly and unexpectedly during a speech at the Rotary Club luncheon, and his now-widowed wife Dorothy (Georgie McAteer) is expected to make "all the necessary arrangements" while ensuring everyone's happy with her choices.

Not only does she have to contend with sudden widowhood, but she's also faced with church-committee harpy Ozella Meeks (Jennifer Levine) sticking her nose in the family business, Dewey's snake-in-the-grass brother (Michael Fruge) making a grab for her house, and two grown daughters (Debbie Cable Brown and Rebecca Johnson) reliving their childhood rivalry. Then there's the boy, Dewey Jr. (Daniel Becker) who's kind of slow, but has a good heart.

Add in the family lawyer (Sam Wilds), a son-in-law (Justin Everett), Dorothy's best friend (Ruby Jett), another friend she's known for years (Tiffany Jarosek) plus the deceased's best friend (Keith Hammons) for a big-hearted comedy about family — Southern-style.

In the south, funerals are huge social events — gathering all manner of family and friends together for an impromptu reunion to share stories, tears and laughter, replete with a “grief buffet” that features a groaning sideboard laden with enough fried chicken, mushroom soup-laced casseroles, deviled eggs and pecan pie to feed an army.
