In this epic fairy tale set amidst the legends of ancient Britain, Princess Imogen secretly marries her true love Posthumus, violating the command of her father, King Cymbeline. When Posthumus flees in order to save his life, the lovers’ faith is tested by villains at home and abroad. With the Roman army threatening their home, Cymbeline must fight for his kingdom as his daughter fights for her husband. Will love conquer all or will jealousy’s traps ensnare the star-crossed couple?

As one of Shakespeare’s later romances, Cymbeline represents a culmination of all Shakespeare’s experiments with genre, tone and story. Elements from most of his earlier plays recur in what is effectively a greatest-hits compilation of highlights from Shakespeare’s whole career. Passionate young lovers, conniving villains, lost children, escapes to the forest, and stunning revelations all enliven this tragicomic tale, which features one of Shakespeare’s greatest final scenes.
