Norway, 1888. A small town by a land-locked fjord. Ellida is second wife to widower Dr. Wangel and step-mother to his two grown daughters, Bolette and Hilde. Ellida is haunted by her uncanny connection with the ocean and its changing tides. When a mysterious past love returns from the sea to re-claim Ellida, she must choose between the suffocating safety of the shore and the thrilling danger of the unknown and the ocean deep.
