Ghosting
by Overtime Theater

Apr. 29 - Apr. 30 (2022)

After the death of his husband Todd, Jeffrey, a middle-aged man, hires Brandon, a struggling writer to finish his late husband’s plays in an effort to  secure his theatrical legacy. Though Brandon sees this as a temporary job and a chance to get paid to work on his passion project, sparks fly between the young man and the still-grieving widower. In his ghostly form, an ever-optimistic Todd does his best to encourage the match until Brandon discovers an intimate diary detailing  Todd and Jeffrey’s final days together.  With the help of best friends Carol and Gavin and Todd’s otherworldly approval, the couple find their way back into each other’s hearts while also  finishing Todd’s unfinished works.

The Overtime Theater is seeking male and female actors ages 25-60 for its upcoming production of "Ghosting," a romantic comedy in the shadow of tragedy written by Thomas J. Misuraca which runs June 3-25, 2022. This play will be presented as part of the Overtime Theater’s Pride Series in celebration of National LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

CHARACTERS:

Brandon (Male, any ethnicity, age 20-30), a struggling writer. He wants to write for television, but ended up in New York City because it was closer to home. Uses his sense of humor to diffuse difficult situations.

Jeffrey (Male, any ethnicity, age 30-50), a middle-aged widower. He’s trying his best to remain happy a year after his husband’s death, but it still weighs on him. He works in finance.

Todd (Male, any ethnicity, age 25-35) has died before for the story has begun. He is fully interacting in flashback scenes, but in present scenes, he only observes, reacts, and acts in mime, never interacting with characters there. He has a positive attitude, even in the darkest of times.

Gavin (Male, any ethnicity, age 20-35), a struggling actor and Brandon’s best friend. He puts on an air of being self-absorbed but is always concerned about his friend’s welfare. He’s unlucky in dating, often ghosted by men.

Carol  (Female-identifying, any ethnicity, age 40-60), a middle-aged woman and Jeffrey’s best friend. She believes she’s always there for others, but she’s mostly self-absorbed. She’s very fussy about her men, often ghosting them.
