The Women of Lockerbie explores grief and it’s numerous and varied effects in the wake of sudden tragedy.  In December of 1988 Pan American Airlines Flight 103 exploded mid-air over the quiet Scottish town of Lockerbie. This traumatic event has long been heralded as the beginning of the modern terrorist era.  Eight years following this shocking and tragic event, the town’s women banded together to acquire the 11,000 pieces of clothing retrieved from the wreckage in order to wash and then return them to the grieving families of the victims as a practical and symbolic act of closure and healing.
