Sweeney Todd
by St. Andrew's Episcopal Upper School

Oct. 30 - Nov. 02, 2014

St. Andrew's Episcopal School is hard at work for their upcoming production of Sweeney Todd!

The 27 cast members on stage are accompanied by a professional, 11-piece orchestra, and supported backstage by 20 student crew members and stage managers.

The Upper School cast, crew, and production team have been working hard to bring this musical thriller to life. Director Rick Garcia says, “I sat alone in the dark in my 19th-century farm house one night and intentionally scared myself just listening to the Sweeney Todd music." Rick's interpretation includes machine-like dancing, slow-motion actions, and nightmarish images. Music Director Michael Rosensteeland his cast are excited to show audiences "Sondheim's moments of pure lyrical beauty amidst the darkness." Set Designer Scott Schumann marvels, "What's on the stage is mind blowing, and the students created all of it."

As if that weren't enough, the Dell Fine Arts Center will also feature original artwork in the lobby by St. Andrew's alumnus Alex Lewis, who designed the Sweeney Todd poster.

Set in 19th-century England, Sweeney Todd tells the story of Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd) who returns to London after 15 years in exile to take revenge on the judge who banished him. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim and the book is by Hugh Wheeler.
