Cumbia Cruiser Chronicles, Vol. 1: The Rise of EloteMan
by Aztlan Dance Company

Sep. 09 - Sep. 18, 2016
Fridays-Sundays

Xicano Super Heroes is the AZTLAN Dance Companys latest contemporary expressive Xicano/Latino inspired choreography. Drawing from ancient pre-Columbian codices and contemporary 21st century comic books, the dance performance re-imagines and revises Las Américas myths and legends in order to give rise to the barrio-based comic book characters of the Xicano Super Heroes.

In Volume 1: The Rise of EloteMan (Corn-Man), AZTLAN narrates times beginning by chronicling the intergalactic cumbia cruisers journey through the cosmos and arrival on Earth to seed life.  In the backdrop of this epic genesis event, the wicked underworld villains, led by their Trumpesque leader Moustachio, plot and ploy to seize and extinguish life in order to thereby claim the universe. Fueled by EloteMans street corner edibles, the Super Heroes engage the Villains in a resplendent dance for the future of earth and humanity.
