Until the day she got ‘that’ fateful phone call, Dragonfly was living her best bohemian life in NYC. Now, after 20 years, the prodigal daughter is back in her childhood home in Texas. She negotiates the changes in her octogenarian mother’s memories and abilities while also dealing with her own change of life and change of circumstances. Helpful and harmful characters aid and assail her on her journey. As the baby of the family, she quickly learns to care for her mother and herself beyond everyone’s expectations, with the help of snacks and prayers along the way.
Jump-Start Performance Co. is proud to present Snacked Up In Prayer! The Dementia Diaries written by Robin LaVerne Wilson, performed by Dragonfly and directed by Amalia Ortiz. The one-woman hour-long variety show highlights the multi-faceted challenges facing a family member as she cares for an elder in cognitive decline. Throughout Snacked Up In Prayer! Dragonfly uses multiple tasks and techniques to invite audiences to engage with this social issue that affects so many.
Dragonfly has been selected as Jump-Start’s INKubator artist for 2025. This program supports a San Antonio artist or collective each season with a small budget, rehearsal space, tech support, the Critical Response Process and a nurturing environment in which to produce their original performance. Audience attendance and feedback supports the further development of the artist’s production.
