Oct. 25 - Oct. 26, 2019
Hipster zombies, b-boy werewolves, drag queen witches, and ballerina ghosts are just a few of the spooky characters rounding out the city’s newest professional ballet company’s immersive reimagining of the classic ballet Dracula at Austin’s iconic Spider House Ballroom turned haunted house on October 25 & 26.
“I started the company with the goal that every show would benefit Austinites beyond the dancing,” said company founder, director, and choreographer AJ Garcia-Rameau. “We hope that as many of our audience members as possible will donate blood and help raise awareness for the constant need for donors.”
As part of its mission to support the community, Ventana Ballet partnered with We Are Blood, hosting the ongoing Vampire Blood Drive from September 23 through October 23 at the Lamar Donation Center, located at 4300 N Lamar Blvd. Donors who set an appointment and mention Ventana Ballet at registration will receive a free t-shirt at the October 25 & 26 shows. Donations will end 48 hours before the show because alcohol will be available at this spooky, adults-only event.
Austin360’s Michael Barnes said, “Ventana Ballet opens a new window on Austin dance,” and this production is no exception. UNDEAD features 16 local professional theater and dance artists across multiple disciplines, engrossing the audience in a full night of classic Halloween creatures, suspense, comedy, and of course, ballet.
The evening-length event is choreographed and directed by Garcia-Rameau.
