Thursday-Saturday

The Magik Theatre, San Antonio’s professional family theatre, presents Shakespeare on the River - a FREE event celebrating family-friendly Shakespeare. Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre returns to San Antonio for a third year, having performed The Taming of the Shrew at last year’s Shakespeare on the River. This year, they will perform the classic comedy Much Ado About Nothing.

“Their take on Shakespeare is very family-friendly, making it a great fit for Magik’s mission,” said Magik’s Chief Executive Officer Frank Villani. “It’s the perfect way to introduce your kids to Shakespeare.”

From Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre: "In this one-hour Family Shakespeare adaptation, Beatrice and Benedick have sworn off love and each other. Their friends and family intervene to transform these sworn bachelors into a happy couple. Will these tricks finally put an end to their "merry war?" Much Ado is our Family Shakespeare performance, and is specifically designed for audiences of all ages. There is some cartoonish violence and lots of discussion of love and romance, as well as the hilarious use of one Shakespearean swear word.”

Shakespeare on the River is generously funded by the City of San Antonio Center City Development and Operations Department, City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture, Elizabeth Huth Coates Charitable Foundation of 1992, GLI Distributing, Mid-America Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the state arts agencies of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
