Video Promo & Funding Appeal: CALL OF CTHULHU by Justin West, Mercurial Theatre

Deep within the forest, police are moving in darkness upon a curious and demented gathering. A disturbed refugee seeks asylum, asking for answers to the abuse they have suffered at the hands of a malignant, dangerous cult. Together, the group must confront a terrifying religion that aims to evoke the presence of a cosmic terror, borne of evil and eons older than man himself. Is this just a mad cult, or a pathway to the dark truth of a cold universe?

----------

Based on HP Lovecraft’s celebrated short story, Call of Cthulhu distills the sprawling investigative story and condenses it into a single sequence of moments of heightened tension and drama. Themes of insanity, doubt, faith and fear weave in and out of the narrative, culminating in an ending that’s as challenging as Lovecraft’s work can be.

Production has already begun. The script has been written, our cast is set, and we are in the final stages of selecting our venue.

The trailer featured in our Kickstarter was put together by a member of the Mercurial family, Mike Rodriguez. It's meant to convey the tone and theme of the show you're helping us create. In fact, we were so happy with the end product that what started as a promotional video for this Kickstarter has morphed into a bona fide short film, a prelude of sorts to the play this Kickstarter is for. So if you like the trailer, check out our website in a few months at http://www.mercurialtheatre.com for more info about this project!

Mercurial Theatre formed over a year ago as an experimental, speculative theatre company in Austin, TX. Inspired by classic film noir, mystery, and horror, along with a healthy respect for and experience with the performing arts, Mercurial Theatre set forth to present audiences with unique, memorable experiences.

Our first production, the first adaption for the stage of HP Lovecraft's The Color Out of Space, premiered to sold out audiences throughout the entire run, garnering solid reviews from Broadway World and cementing our place in the Austin theatre scene. We were surprised by the response, and went into our next show with the wind at our backs.

In the fall of 2016, we presented our second production,  a completely original piece entitled Let the Dead Now Speak. Over three weekends and 13 performances, this immersive piece of theatrical horror placed the attendees "dead" center during a live seance. We were happy to see many faces from Color return for this show, and even happier to see them left unsettled and giddy at the unique experience they'd just been a part of.

In preparation for this Kickstarter, we shot a short film we thought would be fun, more interesting than your garden variety Kickstarter video. Oh, we created something different, alright. After much deliberation, we elected to use the trailer, instead, as it does a better job of conveying the tone of the play. Nonetheless, this abomination of a short has to live somewhere, and we've posted it on our Kickstarter page. So... click and enjoy?
