381 Bleecker
by University of Texas Theatre & Dance

Nov. 22 - Nov. 24 (2015)

Ellen and Meg have kept their distance since their brother Henry’s death 25 years ago. When circumstances force Meg to leave her beloved New York City apartment and move in with Ellen, the sisters are asked to reckon with the loss that drove them apart. 381 Bleecker is a rich and theatrical story about grief, memory and the harrowing work of forgiveness.

Seeking headshot/resume submissions for two actresses late 40’s to 60’s to complete the cast of 381 BLEECKER by Gia Marotta, directed by Jess Hutchinson in a UTNT (UT New Theatre) workshop production April 14 – 24, 2016. There is pay.

We are looking for actresses who can read around these ages in the context of undergraduate students playing characters in their mid 20’s to 30’s. While these are the characters’ ages, we have wiggle room with the ages of the actors.

About the characters:

Meg: White Female, 61 – adjunct professor of dance at NYU. A dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker, artist, survivor. Broke and breaking.

Ellen: White Female, Age 56 - labor organizer in Boston, David’s mother, getting back on her feet after an especially cruel divorce. A fighter, but careful – maybe too careful sometimes.

About the process:

Rehearsals begin the week of February 29, 2016.

Thursday and Friday nights, 6pm to 10pm

Saturday 10am – 8pm (with a break mid-day)

Sunday 10am to 2pm.

As this show will run in rep with 3 other shows, our tech will follow a more traditional schedule, which is still being finalized. There will be three performances between April 14 and 24. Rehearsals and performances on the UT campus. Actors will be paid a stipend.
