Initial Auditions for The Georgetown Palace’s production of Doubt will take place on March 3 and 4, 2024.

The production is scheduled to open on Friday, May 3, 2024 and close on Sunday, June 2, 2024.  
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 25, 2024.  

We are looking for talented and diverse performers of all ethnicities for all roles. We are looking for 4 actors, aged 18 and up. All ages listed for the characters are simply suggestions.

The Georgetown Palace desires to be as inclusive as possible and we enthusiastically encourage gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and nonbinary actors to submit to audition for any roles listed. We also seek all races and ethnicities. Our character descriptions on the following pages are gender binary and are written with he/him or she/her. While they are limited in their writing, we hope that anyone who identifies with any of the roles, will come out and audition.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

Sister Aloysius Beauvier – Female Presenting (fifties/sixties) – Sister Aloysius is a middle-aged nun who serves as the principal of St. Nicholas School. A strict disciplinarian, she is committed to what she sees as the traditional ways of running a Catholic school. 

Father Brendan Flynn – Male Presenting (mid-thirties)  – Father Flynn is a priest at St. Nicholas Church and School whom Sister Aloysius accuses of sexually abusing a student.He wants the church to be more progressive and is generally well-liked by the community. He tries to keep the best interest of the Church at heart.

Sister James – Female Presenting (twenties) – Sister James is a young nun at St. Nicholas School. A person with “sunshine in her heart,” she wants to be the kind of teacher students feel comfortable talking to about their problems. Her generous disposition also contains a certain amount of innocence and naivety.

Mrs. Muller – African-American, female presenting (mid-thirties) – Mrs. Muller is the mother of Donald Muller, the school’s first African-American student. When she learns from Sister Aloysius that Father Flynn might be sexually abusing her son, she refuses to do anything about the situation. She only wants the best for her child and his future, even if she has to fight for it.

AUDITIONS:

Auditions will be held Sunday, March 3 starting at 6:00 pm with callbacks Monday, March 4. Callbacks are by invitation only, and will be posted on the Palace website, but an email with the callback link will be sent to everyone who auditioned when the callback list gets posted online. 

  • Please prepare a dramatic monologue of your choosing, around a minute long. It does not have to be memorized but should be prepared.  We welcome auditioners that are 18 and older due to content.   
  • Callbacks will consist of cold reads from the script. Sides will be posted with the callback list.

Auditions are located at the Palace Playhouse 216 W. 8th street Georgetown TX 78626. Initial Auditions and Callbacks will be on the Playhouse Stage. 

Auditions are scheduled online via the Palace website. You will fill out the audition form, sign up for a time, and fill out the conflict calendar, as well as upload a headshot and resume. Questions should be emailed to productions@georgetownpalace.com

You will receive an email confirming your appointment. If you are unable to attend any of the audition times, please go ahead and fill out the form and put yourself on the waiting list. Then send us an email and we will try to work with you to schedule an alternative time.

REHEARSALS:

  • Scripts will be distributed at the first rehearsal, but a link to the digital script will be given with a casting offer. 
  • Rehearsals will begin on/around March 25.
  • Rehearsals are typically held Monday through Thursday from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm and Saturday 1:00p-5:00p.

PERFORMANCES: 

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. Sometimes ticket demand causes us to add Saturday matinee performances at 2 pm.  

CONFLICTS:

When signing up for an audition slot please note any conflicts during the rehearsal or performance dates.  Please note: conflicts do not necessarily negate the opportunity to be cast, but we must know about them up front to factor that into the casting decisions.  Barring emergencies, additional conflicts added/disclosed after casting could result in dismissal from the production.  Sunday rehearsals will only be planned for tech rehearsals immediately prior to opening, but please include Sunday afternoon conflicts for the rehearsal period so that in the event a Saturday must be canceled due to cast conflicts we will know whether a reschedule on Sunday is an option. Adding all of your conflicts after casting could result in your removal of the production.

CASTING:

Once casting is completed (typically 2-3 days after callbacks), emails will be sent to the actors that will be offered a role in the production. Once the full cast has accepted, everyone else who auditioned will be notified via email.

Compensation:

All actors offered a role in the show with the age of 16 and over will be paid a non-union stipend. Payment and casting will be contingent upon The Georgetown Palace Theatre’s casting policies.

HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS: 

Everyone should self-monitor for symptoms and stay home if they do not feel well. You should also wear a mask if you have direct exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, and get tested on the 5th day following the exposure.

We’re constantly monitoring and evaluating our policies and will update them based on guidance from the CDC.
