Dreamgirls
by San Pedro Playhouse
Feb. 06 - Mar. 08, 2026
Experience glitz, glamour, and groundbreaking music with Dreamgirls. This electrifying musical follows the rise of a trio of young Black singers—Effie, Deena, and Lorrell—as they navigate the highs and lows of fame, ambition, and friendship. Featuring unforgettable songs like "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and "One Night Only," this Tony Award-winning musical is a dazzling journey through the history of American music.
Director Darcell Andre shares, “When building the Dreamgirls creative team, it was essential that it reflected the Black artists of San Antonio, especially Black women. This story lives in our music and our memory, so having Black women leading costumes, hair and makeup, and assistant directing was non-negotiable. Their lived experience brings the nuance, honesty, and cultural preservation this show deserves. Centering Black creatives is more than a representation, this is what keeps the soul of Dreamgirls intact.”
