Teatro Vivo announces their 2025-26 season of productions and community engaged programming named “Raíces Vivas.” The company is extending their roots in Austin with a season filled with Teatro Vivo traditions.

First in the season is “Papakō: The Journey” co-written by Maria Rocha, Genevieve Schroeder-Arce, and Roxanne Schroeder-Arce and directed by Oscar Franco. This play for young audiences is a part of the company’s tradition of new play development - creating the play in collaboration with the Indigenous Cultures Institute of San Marcos since 2023. The show will run November 6 - 15, 2025 at East Austin College Prep.

Next, Teatro Vivo will produce an exciting new version of their annual “La Pastorela” just in time for the winter holidays, providing this important Mexican-American cultural tradition for families around Central Texas.

In 2026 the company will continue their Latinx Playwriting Workshop series for a consecutive third year - offering a training ground for playwrights of all experience levels.

Finally, in the spring of 2026 the Austin Latinx New Play Festival will return for its sixteenth year, bringing original new plays to Austin audiences. Dates and locations of this programming will be announced soon.

“This season we continue to plant our roots in Austin through steadfast programming that Austinites in the Latine community and beyond have come to expect from us. We are committed to our communities and to sharing important stories about, for, and by Latine people,” says the Teatro Vivo Board of Directors. “In a frightening and challenging time we are here as Raíces Vivas, providing events for our communities to gather and experience the magic of live storytelling together.”

This season is produced with support from the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division. More information on the season and Teatro Vivo can be found at https://teatrovivo.org/2025/09/11/announcing-the-2025-2026-season-raices-vivas/ .
