EXIT
by The Vortex

Mar. 09 - Mar. 12 (2016)

EXIT is a play about believing that things can be different.  It shares our stories of verbal, emotional, psychological, physical or sexual abuse.  Almost everyone has a story or knows someone who does.  This play allows for humanity to hear the complete story—the person before the violence or abuse, the struggle to hold on to hope, claiming one’s own personal power, the process of healing and moving forward.  Sharing the story brings it out from the shadows and into the light.

Sharing stories heals wounds, connects us to ourselves and to each other. Stories invite us into the lives of the people who share them and reveal that which has been invisible or unspoken. The play is a creation and collective story telling of a large, composite story and is not a retelling of collected stories.

Auditions for the premier run of #EXIT from April 14-23rd, 2016 will be submitted online via email.  The characters are as follows (even if you don’t fit within the specific character parameters we encourage you to submit, we love being surprised by talent):

  • Alexandra-a young white female college student with epilepsy currently in an abusive relationship and is exploring her sexuality (18-24)
  • LaKeisha-is a Straight African American Woman, who owns I Love Coffee-the coffee shop that saved her life, also where the play takes place and is a domestic violence survivor (middle aged + (age is a bit more flexible here))
  • Padma-is a Straight Indian Woman who is a Montessori school teacher and just recently got out of an abusive relationship (Middle Aged + (age is a bit more flexible here))
  • David-is a Chicano Pansexual male who works part time as a counselor at an LGBTQ+ center while pursuing his PH.D in Social Work, military vet-served during Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell-and a domestic violence survivor. (30s)
