Crete, in the mythic age. King Minos sits awake in the gloom of his throne room, drinking, because tomorrow the long ships arrive from Athens carrying tribute: seven sons and seven daughters, to be sealed into the Labyrinth and fed to the thing that lives beneath the palace. The monster is his wife's child. He calls it his bull.
The Minotaur is a chamber tragedy in five scenes about the parts we are handed and the parts we agree to play.

The Zahir, Austin, is seeking an actor to play Theseus in The Minotaur, a mythic drama set in the island kingdom of Crete.

Theseus is the youthful Prince and Hero of Athens: muscular, brave, intelligent, and outwardly composed. He has volunteered to take another victim’s place and enter the Labyrinth, believing he can defeat the Minotaur and save his countrymen.
This is a demanding leading role requiring strong physical presence, emotional range, and a confident command of heightened dramatic language. The actor must embody both the public image of a legendary hero and the private vulnerability of a man confronting fear, mortality, guilt, and the consequences of violence.
The role includes scenes of psychological confrontation with King Minos and Ariadne, as well as an intense physical encounter with Asterion, the Minotaur. Comfort with stage combat, physical storytelling, and emotionally rigorous material is required. The performance should reveal a Theseus who is courageous without being invulnerable, witty without losing gravity, and heroic without escaping moral complexity.
