Secrets and Shadows

This year, Secrets and Shadows is a journey through the history of Lockhart presented by spirits with a connection to the region. A group of actors will perform small scenes within a larger program to help tell some quintessential Lockhart stories about the identity of people, place and the enduring human spirit through historical recollection and memory.

Audition Location: 

The Gaslight Theatre 218 S Main St, Lockhart Tx 78644

Audition Dates: August 16, 2026, 4-6 pm

Callbacks August 17, 7-9 pm

 

Performance Dates:

October 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 2026 at 7PM

Each night consists of 3 cemetery tours. Tours are 50 minutes long.

Character Descriptions

 

Matilda Lockhart (Teen) - Captured by Comanche. Later returned utterly degraded. Very fragile. Characterized by oscillating moods. 

 

Byrd Lockhart (40s) - Founder of Lockhart. Matilda’s uncle. Minimal speaking if any. More of a presence.

 

Ed Swearingen (30s) - Veteran of WW1. PTSD. Kills his best friend over a minor argument. 

 

Carter Flowers (30s) - Veteran of WW1. PTSD. Killed by his best friend.

 

Mr. Joe Watt (50s) -Woodyard Employee. Hard working. Family man. Non speaking role requiring makeup/prosthetics.

 

Mrs. Maude Watt (50s) - Mild-mannered. Grieving widow. Bereaved parent.

 

Mrs. Pauline Blum (40s) - Saloon Employee. No nonsense. Bold. Opinionated.

 

Mr. Earnest Blum (40s) - Barber. Loved his wife. Even tempered.

 

Mr. Morgan White (30s) - Drinker. Bit of a cad when in his cups. Hot-headed under the influence. Well mannered sober.

 

Stephen “Rowe” McClain (30s/40s)- Black Cowboy on Chisholm trail. A bit of a daredevil. 

 

Green W. Mills (20s/30s) - Cowboy on Chisholm Trail. Hard working. Salt of the earth. Has a taste for adventure.

 

Lizzie Johnson (20s/30s) - Cowgirl on Chisholm Trail. Former school teacher. Trailblazing spirit. Cattle Queen.

 

What to expect:

Audition will consist of cold readings from the script. Be prepared to fill out an audition form. Resumes and headshots may be sent to cynthiacruser42@gmail.com OR bring hard copies the day of.

Stipend provided for all actors.
