Rosita y Conchita

Rosita y Conchita is a play for young audiences with choreography by Round Rock Ballet Folklórico. This beautiful piece is set on the Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos, the day of remembrance of loved ones who have passed away. Rosita is a young girl whose twin sister, Conchita, has passed on. Rosita longs to connect with the memory of her sister. She journeys through sensory memories in an effort to recall her twin, but she struggles to feel her sister’s presence. Along the way, she encounters guides, from animals to musicians, who bridge the afterlife to help her look beyond the limits of her senses, into her heart.

 

Auditions for Rosita y Conchita

Auditions will be held in person on Sunday 6/8/25, from 10 AM until 2 PM. If you are interested in auditioning and you are unable to attend in person on that day, we will be able to accept video submissions until 10 PM on 6/11/25. Please attach the video where indicated at the end of the audition form, below, or email a YouTube or Vimeo link to scott@penfoldtheatre.org.

Callbacks will be held on Saturday 6/21 between 10 AM and 5 PM and/or Sunday 6/22 between 10 AM and 2 PM.

Rehearsal and Performance Dates

Rehearsals are slated to begin at the end of September. Performances are from mid to late October. Rehearsals and performances will take place at Penfold Theatre (2120 N. Mays St. #290, Round Rock, TX 78664) from Sept 27-Oct 27, 2025.

Character/Actor Breakdown:

Muerte: Narrator, connected to both worlds of the play and to the audience. He is a prankster who both helps and hinders Rosita in her quest to reach her sister. Any gender, age 25+

Rosita: Sister to Conchita. She has passed away. She journeys through the day to find her living sister. Female-identified, adult actor to play age 6-8.

Conchita: Sister to Rosita. She is living. She labors throughout the day, making an altar to coax her sister to her. Female-identified, adult actor to play age 6-8.

Señor Costillas/Pajaro/Gata: A goofy human skeleton/a wisecracking skeleton bird/a kind and wise skeleton cat in the land of the dead. Played by one actor using puppets and physicality, any age/gender.
