This enchanting tale of love, magic, and mischief promises to captivate audiences with its whimsical charm. Midsummer Sueño is an original work being presented as an outdoor theatre festival experience in historic San Pedro Park.

 


Auditions

The Public Theater of San Antonio and The Classic Theatre of San Antonio invite talented actors and dancers of all backgrounds to audition for our upcoming production of Midsummer Sueño, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Directed by Paco Farias.In-Person Audition Date: 

Date: December 9, 2023 Time: 1-5 p.m. Location: The Public Theater of San Antonio, 800 W Ashby Pl, San Antonio, TX 78212 in the Russell Hill Rogers Theater

Virtual Audition Information: 

Submission deadline is Tuesday, December 5, 2023, by 7 p.m. Submission instructions in the form below.

Audition Requirements: • Paste a one to two-minute Shakespearean monologue of your choice. • Actors of all ethnicities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. • Bilingual actors (Spanish) are encouraged to showcase their skills. • Dancers (especially baile folklórico) are also encouraged to showcase their skills. 

Callbacks: 

Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 1-5 p.m. Be prepared to read sides from the script, which will be provided at the audition.

Rehearsal Information: 

Rehearsals will commence on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 and will generally be held on Mondays through Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided post-casting.

Character Breakdown:

To be played by the same actor

Thesios (Mayor of San Antonio): A noble and wise ruler of Athens, authoritative and just.

Oberon: (King of the Fairies): Mischievous and cunning, yet ultimately wise and caring.

To be played by the same actor

Apollonia (Governor of Michoacan): Fierce, independent, and strong-willed; she possesses grace and beauty.

Titania: (Queen of the fairies): Ethereal and enchanting, with a fierce protectiveness over her faction of fairies.

Jesus: A strict father, demanding and unwavering in his beliefs, who wants his daughter to marry a man of his choosing.

Ermida: Jesus’ daughter, headstrong and in love with Lisandro; she is willing to fight for her own happiness.

Lisandro: A young man deeply in love with Ermida; he is passionate, romantic, and persistent.

Elena: Hermia’s friend, hopelessly in love with Demetrius; she is loyal, desperate, and lovelorn.

Demetrius: Initially in love with Hermia, then enchanted by fairy magic to fall in love with Elena; he is persistent and driven.

Puck (Robin Goodfellow): A mischievous fairy and servant to Oberon, playful and full of tricks.

Bottom: A well-meaning but foolish tailor, comically self-assured and prone to grandiosity.

Quince: The earnest and practical accountant chosen to direct the play-within-a-play.

Nuggs: A shy and gentle tattoo artist cast as the lion in the play-within-a-play.

Flora: A no-nonsense mechanic, cast as Thisbe in the play-within-a-play, Has a huge crush on Bottom.

Bob: An I.T. Specialist, cast as the Wall in the play-within-a-play; he is earnest but easily confused.

Mayra: A nerdy teacher cast as Moonshine in the play-within-a-play; she is sweet and kind and game for anything.

Fairies: Magical creatures of the forest. Singers and dancers (especially mariachi/jarocho and baile folklórico) are encouraged to audition.
