Dust
by Bottle Alley Theatre Company

Aug. 16 - Aug. 17 (2023)

Dust by Nicole Oglesby is a full length play about three sisters fighting to stay alive in the Texas panhandle during the dust bowl in the shadow of a dying farm and a miraculous apricot tree. With little money or hope, they choose to love dangerously and question the dark parts of their heritage and faith. What unfolds is a meditation on motherhood, heartache, and what it means to be a young woman in Texas.

Character Breakdown:

Annie- The youngest sister. A young, pious lady who cleans her ears better than anyone in the state of Texas and is still afraid of her head filling up with dust.

June- The middle sister. A clever young woman with a sharp tongue. She admittedly hates most things and has been described as a firecracker lady.

Liz- The oldest sister. A true lady, farmer, and lover. She loves quiet, deep, and dangerously. If you asked her to add up the days ’til the winter harvest, she would count on her fingers and still lose track.

Vera- Liz’s lover. A prostitute. If Vera was born eighty years later, she would be a CEO or a successful internet porn star. Or both.

Jed- June’s lover. If Jed was born eighty years later, he would be the type of man who moves to Austin, Texas to become a singer only to end up staying for many years drinking a lot of beer on porches.
